GCL-4 Motion Events
VC-MET-404 — the hourly count of motion events from GCL-4 specimens — activity telemetry for the most hazardous collection.
Definition
GCL-4 Motion Events counts discrete motion detections per hour from specimens at the highest containment grade (GCL-4), via vibration and vision sensors. It is the activity baseline for the facility's most dangerous specimens.
Why it matters
A rising motion count is an early behavioural warning for aggressive or escape-prone specimens. It feeds the Specimen Aggression Index and gates approach, handling, and the Venus Sentinel response posture.
Formula
N_motion = Σ qualified detections / hour Detections fused from vibration nodes and vision; an event must clear a magnitude gate on ≥ 2 modalities to count, rejecting airflow and drone-wake artefacts.
Inputs
| Input | Detail | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Vibration nodes | Per-enclosure accelerometry | PhytoSense Mesh |
| Vision | Motion segmentation | Spectral Canopy Array |
| Fusion gate | ≥ 2-modality confirmation | CHLORA |
Units & Scale
Events·h⁻¹, integer, per enclosure with cohort roll-up. Increasing-is-worse; upper thresholds apply.
Sampling & Source
- Sampled every 1 minute, reported as an hourly count.
- Two-modality confirmation rejects airflow/drone artefacts.
- Feeds the Specimen Aggression Index.

Interpretation Guidance
| Band | Reading | Likely Driver | Action |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0–4 | Baseline | Normal behaviour | Standard posture. |
| 5–10 | Elevated | Stimulus or stress | Observe; check triggers. |
| 11–25 | WARN | Heightened activity | Suspend approach; monitor. |
| > 25 | CRIT | Aggressive state | Sentinel posture; lockout. |
