Facilities & Environment

The custodian of the physical plant: every wall, airlock, watt, litre, and pascal that keeps the Sector-7 Arboretum Complex standing, sealed, and growing. Facilities owns the building envelope, the greenhouse grid infrastructure, power and water plant, and the biosafety zoning that separates a thriving collection from a containment event.

Mission

Facilities & Environment exists to guarantee that the built environment never becomes the weak link in containment. We deliver the structure, atmosphere, power, water, and access control that the Operations Department depends on to keep 1,246,872 specimens alive and the lethal fraction of them locked behind negative pressure. Where Engineering owns the sensors and actuators of the Bio-Systems, Facilities owns the plant those systems run on — and the concrete, steel, and gaskets that fail loudly if we do not maintain them. Nothing we build is decorative. The Bio-Vault walls are rated, the cascades are measured, and the backup power for GCL-4 is tested every week.

The Sector-7 Arboretum Complex

The Complex is a partially-buried, climate-isolated arcology occupying 184,600 m² of gross floor area across three above-grade levels (G, L2, L3), a containment sub-level (SL-1), and a rooftop drone deck. The structure is organized around the Central Atrium, which houses the "Universal Flora" living archive under a 40 m biophotonic dome, with the six greenhouse grids (A–F) radiating outward and the graded Bio-Vault wing buried at the cold, dark heart of the building. The envelope is a double-skin composite shell: an outer storm/blast layer and an inner gas-tight membrane, separated by a serviceable plenum that doubles as the secondary pressure boundary for the biosafety cascade.

Footprint

184,600 m²

Gross floor area. ~96,000 m² under active cultivation across the greenhouse grids; balance is plant, circulation, and containment.

Envelope

Double-Skin Shell

Outer blast/storm skin + inner gas-tight membrane with a monitored interstitial plenum at −15 Pa relative to occupied space.

Core

GCL-4 Bio-Vault Wing

Buried sub-level containment for lethal/aggressive cultivars under a four-stage negative-pressure cascade and independent power.

Design philosophy (Directorate standard FAC-STD-001): the building is engineered so that any single failure degrades gracefully toward containment, never away from it. Power loss seals doors. Pressure loss isolates zones. Fire suppression in the Bio-Vault is inert-gas, not water. The Complex protects the collection from us, and the world from the collection.
