Strike Frequency (carnivorous)
VC-MET-416 — the hourly rate of trap/strike actuations in carnivorous specimens — a direct aggression telemetry.
Definition
Strike Frequency counts trap or strike actuations per hour in carnivorous cultivars, detected by the rapid-motion channel of the mesh. It is a direct behavioural read used in handling-risk and aggression assessment.
Why it matters
Strike rate is a leading behavioural signal: a rising rate marks an agitated or hyper-responsive specimen and raises handling risk. It feeds the Specimen Aggression Index and gates the approach posture for carnivorous enclosures.
Formula
F_strike = qualified actuations / hour Actuations detected by high-rate accelerometry; a trap closure signature must clear amplitude and duration gates to count, separating true strikes from wind or contact.

Units & Scale
strikes·h⁻¹, integer, per specimen with cohort roll-up. Increasing-is-worse; upper thresholds apply.
Sampling & Source
- Sampled every 1 minute, reported hourly.
- Closure-signature gating rejects wind/contact artefacts.
- Feeds the Specimen Aggression Index.

Interpretation Guidance
| Band | Reading | Likely Driver | Action |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0–6 | Normal | Routine foraging | Standard handling. |
| 7–15 | Elevated | Stimulus response | Defer non-urgent handling. |
| 16–30 | WARN | Heightened response | Suspend handling; observe. |
| > 30 | CRIT | Aggressive | Lockout; calm-window only. |
