Containment Integrity Index (CII)
VC-MET-401 — the composite barrier-integrity score for graded containment spheres and bio-vaults, the governing safety metric of the facility.
Definition
The Containment Integrity Index (CII) is a 0–100 composite expressing how completely a containment sphere or bio-vault is holding its specimen isolated from the rest of the facility. It fuses negative-pressure margin, seal leak rate, breach-proximity margin, and decontamination-airlock compliance into one number per containment unit. CII is computed and weighted by the unit's GCL grade: the higher the grade, the harsher the penalty for any integrity loss.
Why it matters
CII is the metric the Directorate will not compromise. A GCL-4 cultivar — weaponized, lethal, or mobile — relies on its sphere absolutely. Because CII fuses four independent barrier signals and grade-weights them, it surfaces a degrading seal or a collapsing pressure margin before any single channel reaches its own critical point. A facility-aggregate CII below 100 is, by policy, an event.
GCL Grade Coupling
| Grade | Specimen Class | CII Min Acceptable | Grade Weight γ | On Breach Risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GCL-1 | Benign / ornamental | ≥ 95.0 | 1.0 | Advisory log |
| GCL-2 | Irritant / mild toxin | ≥ 97.0 | 1.5 | Operator notified |
| GCL-3 | Potent toxin / spore-shedding | ≥ 98.5 | 2.5 | Zone lockdown ready |
| GCL-4 | Lethal / aggressive / mobile | ≥ 99.0 | 4.0 | Auto breach-response |
Formula
Each barrier sub-signal is normalized to a 0–1 penalty-complement, combined, then sharpened by the grade weight γ so that high-grade units fall faster on any defect:
CII = 100 · ( 1 − γ_norm · Σ wᵢ·(1 − sᵢ) ) sub-signals sᵢ (each clamped to [0,1], 1 = perfect): s_P pressure-margin = clamp( (−ΔP − 18) / (45 − 18) ) (VC-MET-402) s_L seal-tightness = clamp( 1 − leak / 45 ) (VC-MET-403) s_B breach-margin = clamp( (gap − 10) / (60 − 10) ) (VC-MET-405) s_D decon-compliance = airlock_compliance / 100 (VC-MET-409) weights: w_P = 0.35 w_L = 0.30 w_B = 0.25 w_D = 0.10 grade norm: γ_norm = γ / 4.0 (GCL-4 → 1.0, full severity) Hard floor: any sᵢ = 0 on a GCL-3/GCL-4 unit forces CII ≤ 90 (CRIT) irrespective of the weighted blend — a single failed barrier on a dangerous specimen is never averaged away.
Inputs
| Symbol | Input Metric | ID | Weight | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| sP | Sphere Pressure Differential | VC-MET-402 | 0.35 | PhytoSense Mesh |
| sL | Seal Leak Rate | VC-MET-403 | 0.30 | PhytoSense Mesh |
| sB | Breach Proximity Margin | VC-MET-405 | 0.25 | PhytoSense Mesh |
| sD | Decon Airlock Compliance | VC-MET-409 | 0.10 | CHLORA |
Units & Scale
Dimensionless, 0–100, one decimal place, per containment unit and recomputed every 30 s. Facility-aggregate CII is the minimum across all GCL-3/GCL-4 units and the grade-weighted mean across the remainder — never a plain average, because one failing high-grade sphere must dominate the headline.
Sampling & Source
- Pressure, leak, and breach-margin sampled on the PhytoSense Mesh at 10 s / 5 s and aggregated to the 30 s CII tick.
- Decon compliance posted per airlock cycle by CHLORA.
- Any stale barrier channel on a GCL-3/GCL-4 unit is treated as s = 0 (fail-safe), driving CII into CRIT until the channel recovers.
