Facilities Manager
Manages the physical plant of the Sector-7 Arboretum Complex — power, HVAC and climate plant, water and hydroponics utilities, the maintenance program, and the zone biosafety infrastructure that backs containment.
Role Summary
The Facilities Manager keeps the building that keeps the collection alive. Reporting to the Director of Facilities, this manager runs the physical plant of the Sector-7 Arboretum Complex — primary and backup power, the HVAC and climate plant that holds bay setpoints, water and hydroponics utilities, the planned and corrective maintenance program, and the zone biosafety infrastructure (pressure cascades, interlocks, scrubbers, and seals) that physically backs the GCL-1 through GCL-4 containment system. When a plant room falters, containment and cultivation both feel it, so this role is accountable for utility uptime and the readiness of the infrastructure on which every Containment Sphere and Bio-Vault depends. It is a management role with plant-room accountability and a facilities on-call escalation tier.
Key Responsibilities
- Own operation and reliability of the physical plant — power, HVAC/climate plant, chilled and process water, and hydroponics utilities — to facility uptime targets.
- Run the planned-maintenance and corrective-maintenance program, work-order backlog, and contractor coordination under change control.
- Maintain the zone biosafety infrastructure that backs containment — pressure cascades, airlock interlocks, scrubbers, and bay seals — to specification.
- Coordinate with the Bio-Systems Engineer (VC-HR-J041) on the boundary between facility plant and engineered containment systems.
- Manage utility setpoint changes affecting bay climate in step with cultivation and containment, verifying against the Botanical Tracking Metrics.
- Own the facilities capital and maintenance budget, spares strategy, and energy-efficiency program for the complex.
- Ensure life-safety, fire, and building-code compliance and maintain audit readiness with Facilities and Compliance.
- Lead the facilities maintenance team and cover the facilities on-call escalation tier for plant-room events.
Required Qualifications
- Degree or trade qualification in facilities, building services, mechanical/electrical engineering, or equivalent; 7+ years in facilities/plant operations with 3+ years managing teams.
- Hands-on command of HVAC, power distribution, water systems, and maintenance-management programs.
- Experience operating critical infrastructure in a regulated, controlled-environment, or high-containment setting.
- Able to obtain and hold GCL-3 clearance for plant rooms serving containment zones.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in cleanroom, BSL/GCL-graded, or pharmaceutical facilities.
- Familiarity with pressure-cascade and interlock design intent and commissioning.
- Experience with energy management and resilient/backup power programs.
Certifications Required
Certification curricula are delivered through the Verdant Academy; currency is tracked on the HR Training Matrix.
| Certification | Status at Hire | Renewal |
|---|---|---|
| Critical Plant Operations | Required | 24 months |
| Containment Infrastructure Awareness | Required ≤90d | Annual |
| Toxin Handling Tier 1 | Required ≤90d | Annual |
| Emergency Response — Basic | Required ≤90d | Annual |
Physical & Hazard Requirements
- Work at height and in confined plant spaces; lift up to 20 kg and tolerate plant-room noise and heat.
- Escorted entry to GCL-3 zones for infrastructure inspection; pass GCL-3 medical fitness.
- Wear PPE per area and respond to facilities on-call escalation for plant-room events.
