Training & Certification Matrix
The canonical mapping of every credential to the roles that require it, the prerequisites that gate it, and the interval at which it must be renewed. Certification currency gates physical access at the badge reader.
Earn these certifications online. Several credentials in this matrix can now be earned through interactive exams in the Training Academy — including PhytoSense Mesh Operation, GCL-4 Containment, Toxin Handling, CHLORA Operation, and Emergency Response (pair it with the Emergency Drill Exercise).
Enforcement. A lapsed safety-critical certification suspends the corresponding GCL access automatically. Biosafety reconciles the matrix against the badge system nightly; see also the Onboarding Program.

Recurring / Annual Recertification
Certifications do not persist on tenure. Each carries a renewal interval; the certification ledger drives reminder notifications at 60, 30, and 7 days before expiry, and a final hard-stop at lapse. Annual-interval certifications are clustered into a facility-wide Recertification Window each Q1 to consolidate instructor time and minimize bay downtime, with rolling exceptions for new hires.
- Annual (Q1 window): Toxin Handling Tier 1–3, Emergency Response Basic/Advanced, GCL-4 Containment, Venus Sentinel Handling.
- 18–24 month: PhytoSense Operation, Pollinator Drone Pilot, CHLORA Operator — scheduled on the holder's anniversary.
- 36 month: Lead Auditor, Chain-of-Custody & Evidentiary — instructor-led refresher plus assessment.
- For-cause re-cert: Mandatory after any recordable exposure event, containment deviation, or SOP revision affecting the credential's scope.
Currency target. Facility certification currency holds at ≥ 98.5%. Any role dropping below current on a safety-critical credential is removed from the corresponding work roster until restored.
