New-Hire Onboarding Program
A phased integration program that takes a new hire from arrival to fully cleared, certified, and productive — with safety as the gating condition at every phase.
Gating rule. Physical access expands only as certification and clearance are earned. A new hire holds Provisional GCL-0 until safety modules are passed — escorted access only, no specimen contact.

Phase 1 — Day 1
- Report to People Services; verify identity and complete employment record.
- Execute the Non-Disclosure & Biocontainment Confidentiality Agreement (coordinated with Legal).
- Capture biometric and issue Provisional GCL-0 badge (escort-only).
- Facility orientation: emergency exits, muster points, alarm tones, exclusion zones.
- Meet assigned onboarding buddy (see Buddy Assignment below).
- Issue base PPE kit and confirm respirator fit appointment is scheduled.
- Provision MDF account, CHLORA access (read-only), and review the role job description.
Phase 2 — Week 1
- Complete all mandatory safety modules (see below) and pass each assessment at ≥ 90%.
- Respirator fit test and GCL-2 medical fitness screening completed.
- Upgrade to GCL-1 badge; begin escorted bay familiarization with buddy.
- Read and acknowledge role-relevant SOPs in the SOP Library.
- Enroll in required certifications per the Training & Certification Matrix.
- Baseline toxin-exposure biomonitoring panel drawn (Wellness program).
Phase 3 — 30-Day
- Toxin Handling Tier 1 and PhytoSense Operation certifications obtained.
- Upgrade to GCL-2 badge; begin unsupervised work within role scope.
- First performance check-in with manager; goals set for 60/90.
- Shadow at least three full operational cycles relevant to the role.
- CHLORA work-order workflow competency confirmed by Lead.
Phase 4 — 60-Day
- Role-specific certifications in progress or complete (e.g. Tier 2, CHLORA Operator, Drone Pilot).
- Demonstrate independent SOP execution with completed step sign-offs.
- Participate in a containment drill at the assigned grade.
- Mid-program review with buddy and manager; address any certification gaps.
Phase 5 — 90-Day
- All role-required certifications current; GCL-3 supervised clearance granted where applicable.
- Full productivity confirmed against role expectations; probation review completed.
- Wellness follow-up biomonitoring panel; PPE program enrollment confirmed.
- Onboarding sign-off register completed and filed (see below).
- Buddy relationship transitions to standard mentorship; new hire eligible to buddy future cohorts.

Buddy Assignment
Every new hire is paired with a certified buddy from the same job family, at least one grade senior, with a clean safety record over the trailing 12 months. The buddy is accountable for escorted access during the provisional period, SOP familiarization, and being the first point of contact for the new hire's questions through the 90-day program. Buddy assignments are logged in the onboarding register and recognized in the buddy's performance record.
