Definition

Pollinator Coverage is the percentage of receptive bloom-area that received at least one confirmed pollination pass within its receptivity window during the trailing hour. The receptive denominator is the bloom-area the Spectral Canopy Array identifies as open and receptive; the numerator is the subset for which the swarm logged a confirmed visit. It measures pollination effectiveness — whether flowers were actually serviced — as distinct from fleet charge (VC-MET-304), which measures only the means to do so.

Why it matters

Unserviced receptive bloom does not set fruit; coverage shortfalls translate directly into lost yield and broken propagation schedules, and the loss is unrecoverable once the receptivity window closes. Because receptivity windows are short, a coverage dip must be caught and backfilled within the same hour. CHLORA tracks coverage per cell, dispatches reserve drones to under-serviced bloom, and headlines the facility figure on the Operations Dashboard as a primary productivity indicator.

Formula

Coverage is the area-weighted fraction of receptive bloom serviced within window:

Coverage = 100 · ( A_serviced / A_receptive )
           area-weighted, over trailing 60 min

where:
  A_receptive = bloom-area flagged OPEN_RECEPTIVE by the
                Spectral Canopy Array in the window
  A_serviced = receptive area with ≥ 1 confirmed swarm pass
                logged before its receptivity window closed

Confirmation:
  a pass counts only if drone proximity + actuation event are
  both logged (CHLORA fuses swarm task log + mesh position).

Gap tracking (published alongside):
  A_missed = A_receptive − A_serviced
  per-cell coverage map drives reserve-drone backfill dispatch.

If A_receptive < 0.5% of canopy (off-bloom), metric is reported
as N/A rather than 100% to avoid a misleading full-coverage read.

Units & Scale

Coverage is a percentage on a 0–100 scale, area-weighted and reported to one decimal place. It is not a simple cell average — facility coverage is weighted by each cell's receptive area so a large under-serviced cell is not masked by many small fully-serviced ones. When receptive bloom-area is negligible the metric reports N/A rather than a misleading 100%. A DEGRADED flag is set if the Spectral Canopy Array pass is missed.

Thresholds

Nominal · 95–100%

OK

Receptive bloom serviced within window.

Warning · < 90%

WARN

Coverage gaps forming; backfill reserve drones.

Critical · < 80%

CRIT

Significant unserviced bloom; yield loss likely.

Hysteresis & window urgency. Coverage is a lower-bound metric; it alarms as service falls. Because receptivity windows close irreversibly, WARN dispatches reserve backfill immediately rather than waiting on a clearance delay. A WARN clears after coverage recovers to ≥ 93% for one hourly roll-up; a CRIT clears at ≥ 88%. Persistent CRIT with healthy fleet charge (VC-MET-304) points to a routing or actuation fault, not a capacity shortfall.
